CLNTPLAY DEPARTMENTEXPERIMENT 02 / A DRAWING THAT PERFORMS
DRAW NEXT: 01 / GLASSDRAW ANYWHERE. HIGHER MEANS HIGHER. ↗
01 / 043 LINES ON THE PAGE

FROM A GESTURE TO A SCORE

A drawing you
can listen to.

There is no recording hidden underneath. The position and order of the points you draw directly control the pitches. Change the marks and the music changes with them.

01 / MARK

Draw at your own speed.

Move up, fall down, loop back on yourself. A stroke's recorded progress supplies the order, so you can draw in any direction. Choose a line to replace, or start with blank paper.

02 / VOICE

Three registers. One conversation.

Glass, reed and low voices use a shared pentatonic pitch system. Drawing height changes pitch, while pace and transposition reshape the whole four-beat composition.

03 / EDITION

Keep both sides of the work.

Export four loops of the current score as a 48kHz WAV and the drawing as a vector print. The shared link preserves all three lines, the pace and the transposition.
